The Halo 1.5 mod is a map pack which includes the original thirteen untouched maps and thirteen custom maps created by PwNytar, Insidi0us, and doodooshit. Halo 1.5 LAN edition is for smaller LANs which have TVs in the same room. It's a normal copy Halo but with the following sounds removed: OS and camo pickup, teleporter, rocket launcher and shotgun pickup and takeout, damage beeping, Damnation waterfall, and Beaver Creek stream.

The Halo Neutral Host Edition (NHE) allows for a dedicated Xbox to host games between two joining Xboxs on LAN. This allows for two separate Xboxs to play against each other without one Xbox having the advantage of being the host. Supported player counts are 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4. There are on-screen timers, Cortana audio timers, match count-downs, and a configurable training mode. Visual training features for custom maps speed up the learning process for players that are new to those levels. The list of training features are as follows:

XLAN, a method of achieving a virtual LAN for Xbox system link, can work without any modifications to Xboxs. The most difficult part of setting up XLAN is the hardware and wiring configuration. The Xbox must be connected directly to a networked PC with a crossover cable; however, some modern PCs will allow the use of a normal straight-through cable. Most PCs only have one ethernet port, so a network switch is the usually best alternative. Using WiFi is highly discouraged due to obvious latency issues. Note: due to how packets are broadcasted from the Xbox, a network router is not interchangable with a network switch.

  1. Install WinPCap and XLAN on a networked PC running Windows 7 or newer.
  2. If hosting, ensure port 5000 UDP is forwarded. (The port used by XLAN can be changed in the program's settings.)
  3. Open XLAN, go to "Settings...", find the "Channel name:" field and enter something you want to call your virtual LAN that others can identify it by (should start with a pound sign/hash tag). Click save.
  4. Go to "Edit", click "Set Nickname...", type in the name you want to identify yourself as and click "OK". It's best to have this name match your Halo player profile name to reduce confusion.
  5. Turn the Xbox on. It should be visible in the "Local Xboxes" box. If it's not, the network setup is incorrect.
  6. If hosting, simply click "Host". If joining, enter the desired channel's name and click "Connect".
  7. Navigate through the Halo main menu and setup a system link game like normal.

Update your original Xbox's dash to 5960 by inserting any game from the list below into your xbox and running it. I should note this is not mandatory, but it can't hurt to do just in case. As you all know, live has been shut down for the original xbox for awhile now; however, the update files are on the game's disc itself. You should be able to update that way by simply having your xbox connected to your Internet and then attempting to get into an online session or even just booting up a game while connected. This will trigger the update to start from the game disc.

Requirements for this method of Softmod:

  1. Download my .rar in the link above and extract it. Extract the Xplorer Program and the Softmod Installer.
  2. Turn on your Xbox and plug your USB into the female end of the cable. Now plug the cable into a controller port. From here go to "Memory." A message will come up that the USB stick has been formatted or it will simply be formatted without the message depending on your kernel/dash
  3. Unplug the USB and go to your computer, plug it in and if a prompt comes up to format the USB do NOT do it. Open up the Softmod Installer .rar Within this archive you will see multiple .rar's You will need to extract the softmod installer.rar and the .rar for the game that you are using. Within each archive the folder hierarchy is as such: UDATA/*Stuff we need to use*
  4. Once you have the folders from both of the UDATA folders from within the aforementioned .rar's, open up Xplorer360 and click drive, open, hard-drive or memcard. Click partition 0 and drag the two folders into the drive like so (I am using Splinter Cell in this example). We're now done with the computer
  5. Now go back to your Xbox and plug in your USB like you did before. Go to memory and move both the Installer and copy both the installer and the game save over to your hard drive. (I use 007's gamesave as an example here). NOTE: if you only see a "Delete" option and do not see a "Copy" option, just use your D-Pad or Analog Stick on your controller to scroll over to the right and you'll then be able to copy the files over.
    1. Select Backup/Restore Features
    2. Select Backup Eeprom
    3. Select Back to Main Menu
    4. Select Backup/Restore Features
    5. Select Create MS Backup (let it load and finish)
    6. Select Create C Drive Backup (let it load and finish)
    7. Press B to go back to main menu
    8. Select Install Single Boot Softmod and then Choose "Standard." (unless you know what you're doing with the other options)
    9. Pick either EvoX or UnleashX (I recommend UnleashX)
    10. Press Yes
    11. Now let the Xbox be sure you meet requirements (it checks your backups you just made in previous steps) Press OK, the check should be very quick
    12. Press Yes to continue with the install
    13. After the install is finished you will be prompted to shut down the console. Select Yes.
  6. After this is done, unplug the USB and cable, we're done with that. Now insert your disc for whatever game you use and load the save game. Be sure you LOAD the mission as opposed to starting a new game or doing a mission select. The screen will flicker, your Xbox's LED's will cycle between green, orange, and red, and the softmod installer menu will come up.
  7. Now just follow along with what options to select, when things are loading, just let them load. Some things may take a few seconds or a minute or two, be patient. Once each step is completed loading , move to the next step :
  8. Turn your Xbox back on. You will now boot into the dash you chose. In this example I used UnleashX. Your Xbox's LED's should be orange or cycling. This can be changed in system settings of UnleashX:
  9. I recommend you backup your eeprom to a memory card or flash drive and saving it somewhere in case it somehow gets corrupted. You can do this by navigating to the eeprom.bin by starting at the main menu of UnleashX and scrolling down to File Explorer. Click that and then navigate to the directory in the picture below. From here I believe you can select the file to copy it or you can simply back it up via FTP. If you don't know how there's tons of tutorials around:

Congratulations, your Original Xbox is now softmodded. Follow this tutorial below to set up FTP (File Transfer Protocol) on your newly softmodded console:

Now that you're xbox is softmodded (or hardmodded), you'll want to set up FTP in order to transfer files from your computer to your xbox over your internet and vice-versa:

  1. Make sure your xbox and computer are both connected to the same internet (e.g. xbox is connected to router via Ethernet and computer is connected via Wi-Fi)
  2. Boot up your xbox into Unleash X. Go to “System” -> “Settings” -> “Network”. Change your settings to match the picture below WITH THE EXCEPTION OF "TYPE" being set to DHCP (not static)
  3. Open FileZilla and then open FileZilla's site manager (See Red Arrow in image Below). After you have opened the Site manager, make a "New Site" and name it "Xbox." (See Blue Ink in image Below) The Host is your console's IP Address (this is displayed on your console). The User and Password are both "xbox" (all lower-case). Protocol is "FTP" Encryption is "Use plain FTP" Logon Type is "Normal" Port: is "21" (Although I usually don't need to enter 21 for the Port, definitely do it the first time you're setting this up)
  4. Hit "Connect," and all should go well. You'll see something like this:
  5. You're now ready to use FTP. On the left hand side of FileZilla (See Blue Ink in image above) you have all of the folders on your PC. On the right hand side (See Red Ink in image above), you will see folders that are on your xbox. Each folder represents a partition on the hard drive. For example, your DVD drive is “D”. The “E” folder, is where you install homebrew apps such as emulators. If you have a large HDD you can place your Original Xbox Game backups here as well.

Once you have completed softmodding your Xbox and setting up your FTP, you can download and transfer the modded maps and gametypes over as needed. Your E drive should be structured like this: 'E:/Games//'

It should be noted that whenever you switch between different mods and/or vanilla, you will need to clear your cache. Failing to do so could cause severe problems.
